Canada Basketball has appointed Gordie Herbert as the men's national team coach, set to lead the squad into the 2026 International stage. Herbert, who previously led Germany to a World Cup title in 2023, replaces Jordi Fernandez, the former coach who stepped down after a successful run, including a bronze medal at the World Cup.

Canada's basketball program has seen significant improvement, currently ranked No. 6 in the FIBA standings, thanks in large part to stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and R.J. Barrett. Herbert's extensive coaching experience is expected to bolster Canada’s aspirations of securing its first Olympic basketball medal since 1936.
