Following the season, the Suns quickly fired coach Mike Budenholzer, despite having four years and $40 million remaining on his contract. They demoted James Jones from his general manager role and promoted Brian Gregory, his long-time associate from Michigan State.

Gregory wasted no time in reshaping the team, executing a major trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. In return, the Suns acquired Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and the No. 10 draft pick, among other assets, in what has turned out to be a historic seven-team trade. With the No. 10 pick, they selected Khaman Maluach, a highly versatile player from Duke. His former teammate, Cooper Flagg, expressed confidence in Maluach's potential, noting that he has only been playing basketball for four years, which might provide him ample room for growth.

To ease the transition for Maluach, the Suns also traded for Mark Williams, who is expected to take on a significant role immediately, allowing Maluach to develop at a measured pace. This strategy could benefit both players and bolster the Suns' frontcourt for the upcoming season.
