Vladimir Tarasenko, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, has been traded from the Detroit Red Wings to the Minnesota Wild. This marks his fifth team since 2023, after signing a two-year, $4.75 million deal with Detroit last summer. In his only season with the Red Wings, he scored 11 goals and 33 points in 80 games, his lowest total in several years. The move to the Wild is seen as a chance for Tarasenko to recapture his form, as he previously scored 23 goals and 55 points across the 2023-24 season with the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers, contributing to their championship run.

The Wild struggled offensively last season, finishing with the fewest goals among playoff teams, and Tarasenko is expected to provide a boost. With free agency looming, the Wild will have nearly $13 million in cap space to further bolster their lineup. Meanwhile, the Red Wings will benefit from over $23 million in available cap space, having already acquired goaltender John Gibson, as they aim for their first playoff appearance since the 2015-16 season.
