General Manager Danny Briere confirmed this deal, which will see Cates' salary cap hit set at $4 million annually. In the just-concluded season, the 26-year-old forward showed promise, netting 16 goals and accumulating 37 points across 78 games.

Drafted by the Flyers in the fifth round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Cates has steadily built a solid career, playing 235 games with 40 goals and 62 assists to his name. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 194 pounds, Cates made his NHL debut on March 29, 2022, in Minnesota, and scored his first goal just days later against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
