Thrun, a 24-year-old with a solid background from the Anaheim Ducks' draft, has shown his potential with two goals and ten assists in 62 games for the Sharks last season, totaling 25 points in 119 career NHL games.

On the other hand, Reaves, 38, contributed two assists in 35 games for Toronto following his signing in July 2023. This trade not only reshapes the Leafs' defensive line but also provides an opportunity for Thrun to establish himself in a competitive environment as Toronto aims for a deeper playoff run.
