Significant renovations are underway at the downtown Salt Lake City arena, home to both the NHL's Utah Hockey Club and the NBA's Jazz. The Smith Entertainment Group has announced plans to enhance the venue, increasing hockey capacity to about 17,000 and basketball to nearly 19,000 fans, with an immediate focus on adding 1,400 full-ice view seats. Starting this summer, the arena will also undergo a redesign to improve sightlines for hockey games, addressing the challenges posed by its original basketball-centric design.

Jazz president Jim Olson emphasized the importance of these upgrades in enhancing the fan experience for both sports. Renovations will span over the next three summers, culminating in the announcement of a permanent name for the NHL team, currently known as the Utah Hockey Club.
