Washington Capitals defenseman Alexander Alexeyev was arrested Saturday morning following a public intoxication charge resulting from a reported altercation outside Big Tony's Pizza in Arlington, Virginia. The incident occurred at approximately 3:26 a.m., when police were flagged down by a witness observing a fight. Officers arrived to find Alexeyev allegedly involved in a physical altercation, leading to the deployment of pepper spray to subdue him before he was taken into custody.

After being treated on site for pepper spray exposure, he was booked into Arlington County jail around 4:19 a.m. and subsequently released. At 25 years old, Alexeyev was drafted in the first round by the Capitals in 2018 and has logged 80 games with the team since his NHL debut in 2021, although he played only eight games last season without registering a point. He did, however, participate in all 10 playoff games for Washington, with his contract expiring this summer, making him a restricted free agent.
