This comes after a breakout season where Vilardi set career highs with 27 goals, 34 assists, and 61 points over 71 games. Despite an injury that sidelined him for the last 11 regular season games and the first four playoff games, he managed to contribute with a goal and three assists in nine playoff contests.

Additionally, Vilardi achieved new highs in power-play goals (12) and power-play points (25), matching his six game-winning goals from the previous year. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the 2017 draft, he has tallied 175 points (90 goals and 85 assists) in 270 career regular-season games, alongside 12 points in 21 playoff games. The Jets acquired him in a trade that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Kings.
