Despite having only seven appearances due to a lack of at-bats, Grandal values the familiarity with the Red Sox personnel over potential opportunities with other teams. The Red Sox initially signed him after Connor Wong's injury to bolster their depth. However, Wong's quicker-than-expected return complicates Grandal's path back to the majors, as Carlos Narváez has been performing well. It is expected that when Wong is activated, Blake Sabol will be sent back down to make room for him, leading to a potential timeshare situation for Wong and Narváez.

Grandal's performance in Worcester has been decent, hitting .250 with a home run and three doubles, but he has yet to play back-to-back games due to some soreness. As the Red Sox navigate their catching situation, they could consider releasing Grandal if a suitable opportunity arises with another major league club.
