Tigers president of baseball operations, Scott Harris, praised Kahnle for his unique ability to throw an elite changeup that can deceive hitters.

In a related move, the Tigers designated right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo for assignment. Faedo had a respectable season, but the addition of Kahnle signals the team's desire to strengthen their pitching staff as they aim for back-to-back playoff appearances.
