The Detroit Tigers have activated catcher Jake Rogers from the injured list just in time for Tarik Skubal's start against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager A.J. Hinch confirmed that Rogers will catch Skubal for the first time since early April, after recovering from an oblique injury that sidelined him for over a month. Rogers has shown promise at the plate during his rehab stint, hitting .333 in Triple-A.

With this move, the Tigers are expected to designate Tomás Nido for assignment, clearing a spot for Rogers on the 26-man roster. While Rogers was out, Dillon Dingler shone as a top option behind the plate, significantly improving Skubal's performance on the mound. Despite a lower ERA with Dingler, Skubal still prefers Rogers as his primary catcher, a role he excelled in during the 2024 season.
