Both the second and third base umpires remained silent on whether the ball was caught by center fielder Michael A. Taylor or fell for a hit. The first base umpire called a hit, but due to the lack of communication among the umpires, Soto ended up passing the lead runner, Brandon Nimmo, and was ruled out, despite not being credited with a hit.

Pete Alonso quickly turned the game's momentum with a game-tying two-run home run, followed by a surge that saw the Mets take a commanding 4-0 lead with Jared Young and Brett Baty contributing significantly.

Although the White Sox rallied in the seventh inning, Mets' pitcher Tylor Megill managed to secure the win, allowing only two earned runs, supported by a solid bullpen effort.
