In a groundbreaking initiative, the Minnesota Vikings have propelled girls’ flag football into the spotlight with the launch of a new high school league featuring 51 teams across the state. This league builds on a successful pilot program and aims to create a sustainable platform for female athletes, offering funding and uniforms to participating schools. High school athletes, many of whom have prior football experience, are eager to embrace this opportunity, envisioning a vibrant community and competitive environment.

The Vikings have set aside $600,000 to support the league, which is expected to provide equipment and coaching stipends to ensure a level playing field. As excitement builds, the league is set to host a state tournament at the Vikings' TCO Stadium in June, showcasing the best teams in the state. With plans for expansion and future classification by the Minnesota State High School League, the Vikings are paving the way for girls’ flag football as a recognized sport.
