The New York Rangers have made a strategic addition to their roster by claiming Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings. At just 23 years old, Kaliyev brings with him a record of 71 points over 188 games played in the NHL, including 35 goals and 36 assists. His last season saw a dip in scoring, but this move presents the Rangers with a chance to harness his potential as a young forward.
Kaliyev's recent history includes a broken clavicle that sidelined him for the current NHL season, preventing him from making any appearances thus far. However, he did manage to play five games in the AHL with the Ontario Reign, where he recorded one goal and one assist. The Rangers are betting on Kaliyev's ability to contribute effectively to their lineup, especially in light of Kaapo Kakko's departure to the Seattle Kraken in December.
With a modest salary of $825,000 this season, Kaliyev will be a restricted free agent after this year, allowing the Rangers to retain his rights if they choose to keep him beyond this season. To accommodate Kaliyev’s addition, the Rangers sent Matt Rempe to the AHL, who is currently serving a suspension for an elbowing incident against Miro Heiskanen.
