The Seattle Mariners have bolstered their infield by acquiring Miles Mastrobuoni from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash. Mastrobuoni, who is 29 years old, struggled last season, hitting just .194 with four RBIs over 50 games with the Cubs. His versatility allows him to cover multiple positions, including second base, third base, shortstop, and corner outfield.
This move comes as the Cubs designated Mastrobuoni for assignment to make room for newly acquired reliever Matt Festa. To accommodate Mastrobuoni on their 40-man roster, the Mariners designated catcher Nick Raposo for assignment. Raposo, 26, was previously claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays in December.
