The Kansas City Royals announced that infielder/outfielder Nick Loftin has been placed on the seven-day concussion injured list after sustaining a mild concussion during a game against the Chicago Cubs. Loftin was injured while tagging out a runner and has had a disappointing season, batting .216 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 37 games. In response, the Royals recalled outfielder MJ Melendez from Triple-A Omaha, who has shown better form in the minors with a .252 batting average and 13 homers in 72 games.

Additionally, Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and Cubs right fielder Kyle Tucker were given a day off to rest knee soreness but were available as pinch-hitters during the game. Witt's injury was aggravated while avoiding a pitch, while Tucker suffered a foul ball off his knee. The Royals hope the time off will help both players recover before their next series.
