The Washington Nationals have signed infielder Amed Rosario to a one-year contract worth $2 million. The 29-year-old Rosario, who played last season with Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, posted a batting average of .280 over 103 games, including 18 doubles, three triples, and three home runs, while driving in 32 runs and stealing 13 bases.
This move follows the Nationals' acquisition of first baseman Nathaniel Lowe from Texas and the signing of Josh Bell as a free agent. In a corresponding roster change, the Nationals designated right-handed pitcher Joan Adon for assignment.
Rosario, originally from Santo Domingo Centro in the Dominican Republic, is entering his 10th season in Major League Baseball. Over his career, he has maintained a batting average of .273 while playing for several teams, including the New York Mets, Cleveland Guardians, Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Cincinnati Reds. He predominantly plays shortstop but has experience at second base, third base, and all three outfield positions.
