Texas Rangers have signed veteran shortstop Nick Ahmed and outfielder Sam Haggerty to minor league contracts with spring training invitations. Ahmed, a 34-year-old, is a multi-time Gold Glove winner who played for the Arizona Diamondbacks for over a decade. He has struggled with injuries, appearing in only 72 games or fewer in the past two seasons, including a .229 batting average in 2024.

Despite offensive struggles, Ahmed showcased strong defensive skills, ranking among the league's best shortstops with nine outs above average. His signing comes in response to the Rangers' defensive woes last season, where they committed 73 errors, the second-most in the American League. With these additions, the Rangers' spring training roster has reached 67 players.
