Seattle Mariners: Tyler Jay
January 9, 2025
Tyler Jay, a left-handed reliever, was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Mariners from the Milwaukee Brewers, filling their 40-man roster. Drafted sixth overall in 2015 by the Minnesota Twins, Jay has transitioned from a starting role to relief over his minor league career. After a challenging debut with the Mets in 2024, he found success with the Brewers, posting a 0.00 ERA in limited appearances. His ability to pitch multiple innings could make him a valuable asset in the Mariners' bullpen as they prepare for Spring Training.

Seattle Mariners Claim Left-Handed Reliever Off Waivers From Milwaukee Brewers

The Seattle Mariners are proactively managing their roster as they prepare for the upcoming season, with seven players eligible for arbitration. In an effort to strengthen their bullpen, the team claimed left-handed reliever Tyler Jay off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers, filling their 40-man roster to capacity. This marks the second reliever added in as many days, following the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Hagen Danner from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Tyler Jay, originally drafted sixth overall by the Minnesota Twins in 2015, has had a decade-long career in the minor leagues across multiple organizations, including stints with the Twins, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, and Brewers. He transitioned to a relief role after experimenting as a starter early in his career. Jay made his major league debut in 2024 with the Mets, where he struggled initially but showed promise with the Brewers, maintaining a perfect 0.00 ERA in his limited appearances.

With Spring Training approaching, Jay's versatility, including the ability to pitch multiple innings, could work in his favor as the Mariners evaluate their bullpen options.
