Smith, 26, was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech. Over his career, he has had stints with various teams, including the Texans and Eagles, but has struggled to find consistent playing time.

During his time with the Patriots, Smith appeared in eight games and made one start, primarily contributing on special teams.
